Professional statement

Danielle Barry is a clinical psychologist based in Lexington, MA and providing teletherapy to clients in Massachusetts, Connecticut, Rhode Island, New Hampshire, and Florida. She works with adults who want to build and strengthen positive habits and has expertise in weight management, alcohol use disorder, ADHD, anger management, and addressing concerns of older adults.

Dr. Barry’s approach to treatment is based on cognitive behavior therapy (CBT) and acceptance and commitment therapy (ACT) with insights from psychodynamic therapy. She will help you build new habits and get rid of old ones that stand in the way of your goals and dreams. While making changes can be challenging, maintaining positive change is even harder. Dr. Barry’s unique expertise can help you maintain motivation and focus to make positive changes permanent. In addition to psychotherapy, Dr. Barry offers psychological testing, adult ADHD evaluations, and pre-surgical bariatric evaluations.

Dr. Barry earned a PhD from Rutgers University, an MA from the New School for Social Research, and a BA from Yale University. She completed postdoctoral fellowships in neuropsychology and addictions research at Geisinger Medical Center and the University of Connecticut Health Center. Before starting her practice, she was on the faculty of the UConn Medical School, was a clinical psychologist for the Bedford VA Hospital, and was the lead bariatric psychologist for the Reliant Medical Group/St. Vincent’s Hospital bariatric surgery program.

Message to clients

I want to hear your story. I will listen carefully, take notes, and ask questions to get an accurate picture of your strengths and challenges. My style is relaxed but directive, and I’ll tailor my recommendations to your personality style and values. I love working with non-conformists and adapting evidence-based practices to suit your unique perspectives. I believe anyone who wants to change can change with the right tools and guidance, and that growth is a lifelong process.

Positive change doesn’t follow a straight path. There can be a lot of false starts, wrong turns, detours, and repetition of mistakes, but with perseverance you can achieve your goals. Failure is a necessary component of success and an opportunity to grow and learn. I encourage you to take risks and embrace failiure on the pathway to success. Be grateful for the imperfect, complicated, and fascinating being that you are!
