Professional statement

Dr. Samantha Schindelheim is a licensed clinical social worker on the Upper West Side of Manhattan. Dr. Schindelheim is passionate about helping individuals and families move from surviving emotional turmoil and life problems to thriving with the use of healthy coping strategies and a safe, trusting, and collaborative team approach to treatment. Over the last 9 years, she has worked with young children, teens, and their parents as well as college and middle-age adults who struggle with behavioral challenges, attention difficulties, low self-esteem, interpersonal issues, mood, anxiety, trauma and life cycle transitions. She has specialized training in Dialectical Behavior Therapy for Adolescents (DBT-A), Trauma-Focused Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (TF-CBT), Parent-Child Interaction Therapy (PCIT), and Parent-Management Training (PMT).

Dr. Schindelheim provides her services through telehealth and/or in her client's homes with the goal of meeting every client wherever they are. In-home services allow for in-vivo parent coaching, behavioral observations, and an essential level of client comfort and power within the therapeutic relationship.

Dr. Schindelheim is an Adjunct Assistant Professor at Columbia School of Social Work where she teaches Advanced Clinical Practice and Suicide Assessment and Treatment to MSW students. She is also a clinical consultant on an NIMH Grant through Johns Hopkins Medical Center, which focuses on suicide intervention research for Community Health Workers in Baltimore, Maryland. She received her Doctorate in Clinical Social Work from the University of Pennsylvania School of Social Policy and Practice and her Master's Degree in Social Work from Columbia School of Social Work. Outside of private practice, she loves to play with her daughter at the park, spend time with nature in the Catskills, and watch trashy TV.

Message to clients

I know it can be really challenging to find the right therapist. I sincerely hope that with my help, we will be able to build a very strong and trusting therapeutic relationship that is also defined by clear growth, valuable change, and meaningful success. I care deeply about the work that we do together and I will ensure that each session is based on valuable evidence-based strategies, but also tailored directly to your needs and desires for your care. Prior to starting sessions together, I want to make sure that we are a good fit. I do this by spending time on the phone with you so that I can get to know your needs, wants, and dreams for successful treatment, for you to know more about me and my approach, and to answer any and all questions that you may have about the work we will do together. Mental wellness is a big investment and I care deeply about making sure that our work is worth it to you in every way.
