Gaining access to Mental Health Service is becoming more challenging every day. Over the past decade, these services have been strained further by a variety of other aspects including Covid-19, social challenges, economic concerns, climate change, and many others. The list of available therapists is limited, has long wait times, and out of pocket expenses continue to rise.

At AQAL Therapies, we have a dedicated mental health model for urgent care called "ACT Urgently" as a solution to help address this situation.

AQAL Therapies has teamed up with Rhode Island College in accepting Counselor Interns, who have met counseling requirements, and our staff has trained them further in using Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT) along with Focused Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (fACT) under the supervision of an experienced licensed counselor.

This approach enables AQAL Therapies to offer appointments within 72 hours that are affordable and effective outpatient, individualized, psychological care with positive results typically occurring within 1-3 sessions.

About

What are your practice's specialties?

We help those dealing with life challenges such as chronic pain, anxiety and depression, to become more open, aware, and engaged based on their inner strengths.  We achieve this with an evidenced based approach, listening to your concerns, and customizing a action plan with you in a safe, neutral space.

What services does your practice offer?

All of our clinicians are trained in Focused Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (fACT), a focused version of Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT).  How it works is by learning how to deal with past hurts and difficult emotions in order to progress to a meaningful future.  Most people who are struggling with their thoughts, feelings and emotions are usually using "helping techniques" that are not working.  Trying the same things, yet hoping for different results.

With ACT and fACT, the focus is instead on living life in accordance with personal values and learning how to exchange responses that aren’t working with workable behaviors.  The goal is not to get rid of the experience (although a reduction of symptoms is often a side effect) but to provide a way to endure based upon your strengths and development of new skills.

Why should I choose your practice?

We promise to be there for you and to help you get through the immediate challenge by pinpointing places where you tend to get stuck, show you ways to experience thoughts, physical feelings, and emotions in more flexible ways that reduce the negative behaviors they often lead to, and help you find what matters most based upon your personal values so that you can discover actions you can take to become “unstuck”.

How does payment work at your practice?

This program is set up to make sure people have access to services at a low cost (typically at about the same cost as a copay) and to get those seeking help in as soon as possible. This effort is made possible by having mental health counseling interns get the hours they need for their own licensing under the careful supervision of local colleges and a licensed therapist who oversees their work. In essence, you get the assistance of two therapists in just seeing one.

Costs for each session typically run between $35-$60 but can be as little as $15.

There is also an ability to use insurance, but the wait time for that can be outside 72 hours.
