Creative Art Therapy Place is a Creative Arts Therapies counseling center and Art Gallery in Brooklyn, NY. We provide the healing power of Art Therapy to the creative community of Bushwick and beyond. Through individual art therapy sessions, group workshops and art exhibitions, we create a space to decrease stigma around mental health and bring people together for art-making and self care. Our space is designed for individual therapy sessions, art exhibitions and community-based initiatives to support and elevate community members and facilitate trauma healing.

Our team includes a variety of Creative Arts Therapist, including Art Therapists, Dance and Drama Therapy.

Brittany Knapp, MA, LCAT, ATR-BC is the Senior Licensed Creative Arts Therapist and Supervisor of Creative Art Therapy Place. She utilizes Art Therapy, psychodynamic verbal psychotherapy, Dialectical Behavioral Therapy (DBT) and Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) modalities in her work.

Juanita Viera, MA, LCAT is a Licensed Creative Arts Therapist and native New Yorker who is bilingual English/Spanish. Juanita uses a combination of psychotherapy. trauma-informed cognitive behavioral therapy, visual art-making directives and interventions. Juanita sees adults and couples and facilitates holistic Art Therapy groups.

Allyssa Rivera, LCAT, BC-DMT is a Dance and Movement Therapist who combines dance/movement therapy (D/MT) and traditional psychotherapy. Allyssa is bilingual English/Spanish and utilizes a relational-cultural approach that seeks to bring to light current strategies of connection and disconnection with yourself and the world around you. Allyssa sees children, adolescents, adults and couples.

Courtney Bouchard, MPS, LCAT-LP is an Art Therapist and group therapist. Courtney sees clients individually in addition to facilitating affordable Art Therapy Groups for children, adolescents and adults.

Creative Art Therapy Place, PLLC offers a variety of Creative Arts Therapy services, including Art Therapy, Dance and Movement Therapy and Drama Therapy. We offer individual and group psychotherapy sessions for children, adolescents, adults, geriatric adults, couples and families.

We also offer a variety of art and holistic workshops, including drawing, painting, Soundbath, performance, Authentic Movement, Art Therapy, Drama Therapy and more! Our ongoing individual clients have the option to attend a free workshop or group each month to supplement their psychotherapy care..

We provide the option for our individual clients to exhibit their artwork or performance for a small group or the general public in our Healing Arts Gallery.

How does payment work at your practice?

At Creative Art Therapy Place, we are out-of-network with insurance providers. Our clients pay out-of-pocket for sessions, but some receive reimbursement by submitting their "Superbill" to insurance at the end of the month. Our fees range from $100-200 depending on the provider and service offered. Our group sessions range from $30-50 a session.


Adjustment difficulties & disorders - Support around adapting to new and/or challenging life circumstances; skill-building for improved stress management and reduction of anxiety.

Anxiety - Coping with excessive worry, nervousness, or stress; intense discomfort in social settings (social anxiety); sudden and intense feelings of panic (panic disorder)

Depression - Providing support and promoting healing of hopelessness, low motivation and energy, sadness, irritability, sleep disturbance, and loss of interest and pleasure in life

Bipolar disorder - Developing coping and preventive strategies to stabilize extreme mood swings, including manic and depressive episodes; increasing effective strategies to regulate emotions and maintain a healthy daily routine

Race & cultural identity - Exploring topics of racial, cultural, and ethnic background as it relates to one’s family origins and personal identity

Self-esteem - Cultivating self-compassion, assertiveness, and confidence; developing ways to reduce suffering, anxiety, social withdrawal, and self-neglect
