The Couch Method is a therapy practice servicing individuals, families, children and adolescents located in Lincolnwood, IL. Therapists at The Couch Method bring thoughtfulness, compassion and expertise into sessions with their clients. The Couch Method believes in bringing THREE MAIN TENANTS into the therapy room including EDUCATION, INSIGHT and SKILLS. At the Couch Method we believe that in order to get better, most clients need all three. With education and knowledge, our clients feel more empowered and secure. With insight about their histories, clients can begin to understand not simply how to feel better, but WHY they might be feeling and behaving this way in the first place. And thirdly, as much as talk about our pasts can be a helpful and necessary part of the treatment process, we believe in giving our clients more immediate relief, by providing creative and effective skills to manage current symptoms.
Because our practice values, professionalism and integrity, we work with our clients to set goals and track progress. Often, goals might include processing through trauma and neglect, setting boundaries in relationships, increasing self-esteem and developing a secure and solid identity. Other goals for children, adolescents and their families might include managing life transitions, creating meaningful connection, managing oppositional behaviors, social skill development and providing tools for mood related challenges (such as anxiety and depression).
And as much as we value professionalism, we equally recognize the importance of an authentic and nurturing therapeutic relationship. Our therapists know that the therapeutic bond is an immensely important one. Clients who seek treatment often feel vulnerable, raw, overwhelmed, and hopeless, and therefore, we approach these relationships with intention, immense care, warmth and professionalism, with an aim to provide individualized treatment.
The Couch Method specializes in the treatment of individuals with trauma and complex trauma. This means we are an excellent fit for individuals who experienced one traumatic incident or those with a long standing history of abuse or neglect during childhood or during a relationship (partner-related abuse). The Couch Method is ideal for those with challenging relational patterns (they find themselves in relationships that are unsatisfying, conflict ridden, or confusing to navigate). The Couch Method also specializes in anxiety related disorders, oppositional-defiant behavior in children and adolescents, and with helping young adults launch and transition into adulthood with a secure and compassionate sense of self.
