Francesca Rome-Marie is a Psychiatric Nurse Practitioner trained at Johns Hopkins University. She began her career as a family nurse practitioner working in the Chelsea neighborhood of Manhattan with LGBTQIA+ people in primary care, including HIV prevention and treatment. During this period, she attained HIV-Expert status with the American Academy of HIV Medicine.
Seeing firsthand how frustrated her patients were with fragmented and often demoralizing experiences with other health care providers, particularly in the mental health field, Francesca was motivated to offer something deeply different.
Francesca's conception and implementation of a holistic and integrative approach to mental health and psychiatric care is based on understanding health as a whole-- combining physical, mental, emotional, behavioral, creative, social, spiritual, and various other facets. She also believes this care is not possible without spending time. This comes to bear in each 60 or 90 minute session providing clients with insights and possible actions often missed by other providers with a narrower focus or overfull caseloads.
Francesca integrates medical training with an arts background, as well as studies in world religion and culture undertaken all over the world. She has further experiences and knowledges to draw on including Buddhism, philosophy, psychoanalysis, feminist critiques of reason, and literature. Many creative people appreciate her ability to form connections, use metaphor, and provide understanding based on diverse lived cultural experiences.
Francesca most recently presented work at The Association for Psychoanalysis in Culture and Society (APCS) conference, "Orphans of the Real" (October 2023). Her presentation touched on perspectives of transgender embodiment in psychoanalysis through the lens of David Cronenberg's film "Crimes of the Future" and the work of Paul Preciado. In June 2024, Francesca will deliver a presentation at The 14th Sàndor Ferenczi conference, "Psychoanalysis between Catastophe and Creation: Emerging Perspectives" in São Paolo, Brazil.
