Advanced Practice Psychiatric Mental Health Nurse Practitioner - Board Certified, PMHNP-BC Doctor of Nursing Practice, DNPDr. Robert J. Abel, DNP, PMHNP-BC, is a Nurse Practitioner in Psychiatry on the Upper West Side of Manhattan, NYC with a clinical doctoral degree. He has more than 25 years of experience in the mental health and psychiatric fields. Dr. Abel specializes in the treatment of ADHD, ADD, Depression, Anxiety, PTSD, Insomnia, and Bipolar Disorder in children, teens, adults, and seniors. He works with both clients who have had previous experience in therapy and those who are new to therapy.
Dr. Abel takes the time to understand his clients using a Biopsychosocial Model that is holistic and integrative. He uses a warm, empathetic, team approach when working with clients.
He also takes every opportunity to educate his clients regarding conditions, evidence-based treatment options, and the risks vs. benefits of medication at the lowest possible dosages to assist the client to achieve their goals.
Dr. Abel will requently check in with clients between appointments to discuss how they are feeling to ensure their goals and needs are being met. When meeting with a new client, he spends time listening to their story to gain a better understanding of what their daily routine looks like, what a bad day entails, and what is important to them.
Dr. Abel is in practice to assist his clients to feel empowered and on a positive path to growth and well-being. He takes the time to listen and understand clients' treatment concerns.
In addition to his private practice he works as an assistant clinical professor, teaching Nurse Practitioner students at the graduate level in New York City.
