Professional statement

Dr. Stephanie English is a board-certified psychiatric nurse practitioner as well as a licensed psychologist who offers online sessions to clients who live in the state of New York. She is trained in medication management to treat a wide variety of psychiatric disorders but treats mostly, though not exclusively, depression and anxiety.

Dr. English works with adults ages 18-60. She utilizes a collaborative approach with the understanding that though she may be an expert on medication management the client is the expert on his or her life and needs, and their point of view is an integral part of the process.

Dr. English doesn’t focus on the diagnosis, but on the symptoms the client is experiencing, and how those symptoms are impacting the way the client feels and functions in their job, relationships and other life domains. She also doesn’t focus solely on medication. She understands that though feeling and functioning better is a necessary first step, learning to dealing better with life’s challenges to reduce the risk of the symptoms reoccurring is also important. To that end Dr. English helps her clients understand and encourages the use of cognitive, behavioral and mindfulness skills in addition to medication to help her clients better manage stressful moments and life events.

Ultimately, it’s about improving one’s overall quality of life. Dr English understands that one’s mental well-being cannot be separated from one’s overall well-being. To that end she encourages and works with her clients to develop good sleep habits, better understand the beneficial effects of nutrition and physical activity on mood, understand the importance of stable, supportive relationships, as well as consistent self-care and other practices that contributes to one’s overall well-being.

When Dr. English is not helping clients feel better, deal better with life challenges and increasing their overall well being, she is present and engaged in her own life. Some of her interests are sports, vegetable gardening, traveling, and photo journaling.

Message to clients

Starting medication may be new to you, it may seem scary, or you may have had negative prior experiences. It’s so important to find someone who is patient and takes the time to learn what you’re experiencing and how it is impacting the way you feel and function, someone who will also take the time to explain your treatment options in a way that is easy to understand. I am that person and I will do just that.

Please email me with any questions and/or to schedule an appointment.

Please note I do NOT provide psychotherapy.
