Professional statement

Dr. Alecia Greenlee is a Board-Certified Adult Psychiatrist based in the San Francisco Bay Area. She specializes in general psychiatry, women's mental health, navigating culture and gender identities. She uses her expertise in multiple therapy modalities to assist patients on their wellness journey. As a psychiatrist, she holds the expertise and convenience to offer both psychotherapy and medication when indicated.

She enjoys helping professionals from under-represented backgrounds navigate a world that offers both exceptional opportunities and challenges. This is a passion she developed in college, where she helped first generation college students navigate academic and personal challenges as a peer counselor.

Dr. Greenlee considers the impact of medical and physical conditions on mental health. She developed this expertise during her residency at Harvard Medical School/ Cambridge Health Alliance, where she served as a chief resident, and fellowship in Consult Liaison at the University of Chicago

Other professional interests include collaborative care and helping medical trainees learn how to navigate the intersection of race and psychotherapy. Dr. Greenlee has published multiple peer-reviewed research in these areas and has led workshops to help medical trainees navigate issues of cultural and gender identities.

Message to clients

I enjoy helping my patients garner a better understanding of themselves and the family dynamics and patterns that shape them. Through this period of self-discovery, I hope to help my patients develop a better appreciation of and the skills to thrive in the world around them. I have also helped a number of individuals gain greater understanding about their gender, sexual, and cultural identities.

I aim to create a safe and welcoming space for patients. During our first session, I will conduct an initial evaluation to build a custom and evidence-based treatment plan built upon a biopsychosocial framework. This plan may include psychotherapy, medications, and/or recommendations for lifestyle modifications.

Research has shown that the therapeutic relationship between patient and therapist is the most important predictor of positive outcomes. Because of this, I realize that it is no small feat to find a therapist that you feel comfortable working with. I consider it a privilege to work with you on your treatment goals.
