Professional statement

Anton Surja, MD is a psychiatrist located in Tulsa, OK who is board certified in general psychiatry, child and adolescent psychiatry, and addiction psychiatry thru the American Board of Psychiatry and Neurology. He welcomes clients who are struggling with dual diagnosis, including children and adolescents. Sometimes, this looks like having a metal health condition while also being addicted to drugs or alcohol. He also works with clients who have anxiety, ADHD, or a background in trauma.

To support his clients with a dual diagnosis, Dr. Surja utilizes Motivational Enhancement Therapy, which can help clients introspect about why they do certain things and assess their readiness to change. When appropriate, he’ll incorporate medications into his therapy. Clients engage in the creation of their treatment plans, collaborating with them to decide which way to take treatment.

Dr. Surja is a medical doctor and takes a holistic view of health, looking at the mind and the body. His style is warm and he provides clients with a strong sense that they’ve been heard during their sessions.

Message to clients

Welcome! In our first session, we’ll do a comprehensive assessment to understand your concerns, history, and goals. This will help us determine a diagnosis and create a personalized treatment plan, which may include therapy, medication, or both. If needed, I may recommend lab tests, reviewing past records, or involving other providers to ensure comprehensive care.

If medication is part of your treatment, I’ll explain the benefits, potential side effects, and monitoring process. We may also discuss lifestyle factors like substance use, sleep, and stress management. Family involvement can sometimes be helpful, and we can explore that if it aligns with your goals. The most important thing is open communication—this is a partnership, and we’ll adjust the plan as needed to best support you. I look forward to working with you.

Anton Surja, MD

Board certified in general, addiction and child and adolescent psychiatry

Diplomate of the American Board of Psychiatry and Neurology
