Professional statement

Dr. Arnab Datta, MD is a psychiatrist in Midtown Manhattan. He provides a variety of therapy as well as medication management for clients who have depression, anxiety, ADHD, OCD, mood disorders and addictions. Dr. Datta also sees patients who are facing major life transitions in career, relationship and family.

Dr. Datta works collaboratively with each patient to develop the best treatment plan for their situation and lifestyle. He strives to deeply understand where clients are coming from, in order to glean a new perspective or insight that may have been overlooked in clients’ prior treatment.

Dr. Datta is versed in various therapy approaches, including Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) and Dialectical Behavioral Therapy (DBT). He also implements a psychodynamic approach when clients are grappling to overcome deep-rooted, at times subconscious, issues. As an addiction specialist he also practices motivational interviewing to inspire change of a negative habit. Family and couples therapy is also utilized to improve interpersonal communication, understanding and illustrate how the family is connected.

Dr. Datta takes a warm, nonjudgmental approach to treatment, welcoming clients of all backgrounds and concerns to his practice. He strives to serve as an active presence in each of his clients’ journey towards health and progress, making himself available for both in-person and remote video chat therapy sessions as needed.

Message to clients

I practice general psychiatry and addiction psychiatry using a variety of talk therapy and customized medication management. As an addiction specialist, I prescribe customized detox regimens to help patients get off benzos such as xanax (among other), opiates such as heroin and painkillers & stimulants such as adderall and cocaine. I'm a licensed suboxone provider for opiate addiction and also provide injections such as vivitrol and sublocade. I also treat behavioral addictions such as gambling, internet and sex addiction using the Sinclair Method. The Sinclair Method is psychotherapy (motivational interviewing is the main therapy treating addiction) plus the anti-craving medication Naltrexone, which blocks cravings for behaviors. This can strengthen your will-power to overcome a negative behavior or drug use. You don't need to have an addiction to see me, I am a general psychiatrist who puts your emotional issues first. I want to hear your story and see it from your shoes. You can vent and I will provide emotional support. However, I will also give you tactful unbiased objective feedback and a "reality check."
