Dr. Crystal Tholany is a psychiatrist and psychoanalyst in Brooklyn. She works with adults over 18. Many of Dr. Tholany’s clients come for treatment because they are struggling with anxiety, depression, relationship challenges or self-defeating patterns. Some note that they already have an intellectual understanding of the root of their problems, but find that this awareness has not helped to alleviate their suffering or improve their behaviors and symptoms.
Dr. Tholany is trained in psychoanalysis and psychodynamic psychotherapy. However, she tailors her approach to fit the needs of the person she is working with. Initially she and a potential client will touch base by phone. If it seems like a potential fit, then they proceed with two or three sessions in consultation. During the consultation process, the client discusses their reasons for coming for treatment and Dr. Tholany will gather more history. Next they discuss a plan that includes how frequently to meet for therapy and if medication could be of benefit in conjunction with therapy.
Dr. Tholany graduated from Rutgers Medical School (formerly New Jersey Medical School). She completed Psychiatry Residency and an Addiction Psychiatry Fellowship at NYU. In 2011 she initiated psychoanalytic training at the Psychoanalytic Association of New York. She graduated from PANY in 2018. She remains as faculty, teaching and supervising residents in psychodynamic psychotherapy. She has been in practice since 2011 and currently sees clients exclusively online.
