Dr. Deborah Deliyannides is Assistant Clinical Professor of Psychiatry at Columbia University College of Physicians and Surgeons and a board-certified Psychiatrist with practices in Connecticut and Manhattan. She sees teenagers and adults with anxiety, depression, and ADHD in addition to specializing in trauma and relationship difficulties. She provides medication management and psychodynamic psychotherapy to individuals and couples.

Dr. Deliyannides takes a self-psychological approach to help clients consider how their early experiences may influence their relationships. She is a psychodynamic and eclectic Psychiatrist who develops an individualized treatment plan that takes into account a client’s needs and personal goals. When working with couples, she focuses on communication and helping them get in the other’s shoes to better understand each other. Dr. Deliyannides takes a team-oriented approach and collaborates with other treatment team members as needed.

Dr. Deliyannides has decades of experience treating mood disorders with medication in a research setting at Columbia University but she understands the limits of medication and the need, at times, to address relationship difficulties to effect changes in mood and behavior. She is dedicated to her work and to assuring that all of her clients feel supported and safe. She looks forward to meeting you.

Message to clients

I have treated a broad range of people over the years, many with biologic mood/anxiety problems who benefit primarily from medication, and many with relationship problems who benefit primarily from talk therapy, especially in a couples' setting. I am pragmatic and eclectic in approach.
I have decades of experience treating mood disorders with pharmacologic agents in a research setting at Columbia University but understand the limits of medication and the need, at times, to address relationship difficulties to effect changes in mood and behavior.


Depression - Providing support and promoting healing of hopelessness, low motivation and energy, sadness, irritability, sleep disturbance, and loss of interest and pleasure in life

Anxiety - Coping with excessive worry, nervousness, or stress; intense discomfort in social settings (social anxiety); sudden and intense feelings of panic (panic disorder)

Couples counseling - Addressing relationship challenges and life transitions; strengthening communication and feelings of security, desire, connection, and love

Trauma - Coping and healing after threatening or scary events, such as witnessing accidents or experiencing sexual, verbal, emotional, or physical abuse

Relationships - Understanding one’s wants and needs in relationships; exploring patterns of interaction, addressing concerns, and strengthening satisfaction in relationships and dating

Bipolar disorder - Developing coping and preventive strategies to stabilize extreme mood swings, including manic and depressive episodes; increasing effective strategies to regulate emotions and maintain a healthy daily routine
