Professional statement

Dr. Giuseppe D'Amelio is a board certified psychiatrist and founder of Bayside Psychiatry. Dr. D'Amelio has many years of experience working with individuals across the spectrum of psychiatric illness. In recent years, he has developed a specialty working with college students, graduate and professional students, and young adults. Dr. D'Amelio is comfortable treating a wide range of psychiatric illness, including mood disorders (Depression, Bipolar Disorder), anxiety disorders, ADHD, some eating disorders, and particular experience with Obsessive Compulsive Disorder.

Dr. D'Amelio uses a combination of medication management and evidence based psychotherapy techniques to most effectively manage psychiatric illness. Dr. D'Amelio uses medication frequently and confidently, while trying to maintain the lowest necessary and effective doses and avoiding overuse or unwanted side effects. He also always combines medication with therapy, most frequently Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (such as exposures, behavioral activation, or reframing), Acceptance and Commitment Therapy, or Interpersonal Therapy.

Dr. D'Amelio obtained his medical degree and completed his residency training at Washington University School of Medicine in St. Louis. Dr. D'Amelio relocated to Rhode Island where he has enjoyed working with students from many of the colleges and universities in the Rhode Island and even Boston area. In the fall of 2024, he opened his own clinic, 'Bayside Psychiatry' in order to provide a holistic, supportive, and approachable practice style that utilized comprehensive diagnostic evaluation and effective, evidence based treatment modalities.

Dr. D'Amelio and Bayside Psychiatry are located in the heart of Wayland Sq. on the east side of Providence within within walking distance of Brown University and RISD. Dr. D'Amelio offers in person appointments weekly in his Providence office, and is able to offer remote telehealth appointments to individuals in Rhode Island and Massachusetts.

Message to clients

My goal as a psychiatrist is to work together to develop a plan that works best for you: to help you feel better and be the best version of yourself.

Too often I meet new patients who feel like they've just never been heard by their providers, or have been told they have 'x' diagnosis and need a medicine without a discussion about what that means. Seeing a psychiatrist for the first time can be uncomfortable enough, and understanding all of the different options and interventions can seem impossible. That is why I make sure I understand where someone is coming from, what is disrupting their day to day, and how all of the parts of their life may be interacting. We then have a detailed discussion of my assessment and the various options that may be the most helpful.

Most importantly, these conversations continue and evolve throughout the entire time I work with you. You can always feel comfortable to ask about options, wonder about diagnosis or treatments, and express your concerns without fear that you won't be heard. My job is to provide insight and thoughtful recommendations that make the most sense, within the context of your own unique experience.
