Dr. Joseph Gallego is a psychiatrist located in Boston, MA. He specializes in working with teenagers, young adults, and adults who struggle with their mental health as they go through college, early careers, relationship challenges, and existential crises. Many of the clients that Dr. Gallego works with feel that their mental health interrupts their everyday routines, including their ability to maintain a healthy relationship with friends, family, or partners. Others feel that they face challenges with their identity, whether their identity is changing or because of other people’s reactions to their identities, including their sexual or gender identity. Dr. Gallego also helps those who ADHD or neurodiversity requires additional support at school or at work. 


Dr. Gallego is an empathetic and flexible therapist who offers psychodynamic therapy as well as cognitive-behavioral therapy approaches. Clients reflect on their past experiences to understand their current challenges and learn more about how their thought patterns might lead to negative emotions or harmful behaviors. When appropriate, Dr. Gallego prescribes medications to help with mental health symptoms, helping clients find the right dosage that suits their needs. 


Dr. Gallego earned an MD from the Mayo Clinic. He completed his psychiatry residency training at Yale University, followed up fellowships in child and adolescent psychiatry and transgender psychiatry. He is passionate about working with the LGBTQIA+ community and has focused his research and teaching around this topic to improve the accessibility of affirming mental health services for all.
