Dr. Lila Flavin is a psychiatrist at Massachusetts General Hospital and on faculty at Harvard Medical School. She is based in Providence, RI and Boston, MA. Her practice has a particular emphasis on college-age students, young adults, and LBTQ+ individuals. She really enjoys creating a place that is free of shame to discuss hard topics like gender, sexuality, self-esteem or relationship struggles.
Dr. Flavin can either provide medication medication and/or talk therapy. She enjoys working together with a therapist to provide a team approach. Regarding medication, Dr. Flavin appreciates that there is no one right answer regarding medication and is open to working together to find a regimen that works best. For therapy, she targets present moment problems and ways to navigate a crisis or strong emotional reaction. As the crisis resolves, it's often possible to broaden the work and understand larger patterns that are informed by the past. Dr. Flavin also has special training in treating trauma with EMDR whereby the patient reprocesses the trauma and develops a new narrative regarding the event.
Dr. Flavin completed medical school at Tufts University School of Medicine. She completed psychiatry at NYU and did a year of specialized training in addiction at Brown University.
Dr. Flavin works primarily remotely, however, she has availability for in-person appointments in Boston and Providence when needed.
