Professional statement

Dr. Maureen Magauran is a board-certified Adult Psychiatrist in Danvers, MA who specializes in anxiety, depression, life transitions, and life coaching. She describes herself as a holistic Psychiatrist and practices a mind-body approach. With over 20 years of western medical training and ten years of training in meditation and eastern approaches, she brings a unique approach that allows her to treat the whole person, addressing the emotional, mental, social, spiritual, and behavioral factors that can directly affect health.

Dr. Magauran provides psychotherapy with or without medication management. She has particular expertise in implementing meditation-based practices and tools to help clients manage their symptoms without medication. She has helped many women who are interested in tapering off of psychiatric medications to find a natural balance. Many of her clients are mothers who are experiencing anxiety and/or depression or young adults in their 20s and 30s who are looking for support in navigating relationships and intimacy and/or exploring what they want out of life.

Dr. Magauran utilizes an eclectic treatment approach that includes all of the modalities she has been trained in. This includes mindfulness meditation, Psychoanalytic Therapy, Psychodynamic Psychotherapy, Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), and body-based therapies. She is also certified in Inner Space Techniques (IST), a guided meditation process that helps clients access deeper levels of consciousness outside of their busy mind so they see and experience how their present emotional blockages and conditioned behavior or negative patterns began.

Dr. Magauran brings over two decades of experience and has a deep understanding of how to tailor a treatment plan to fit with a client’s needs and goals. She has given numerous talks on death and bereavement and has training in improvisation to help clients in real-world ways as things come up, which is especially beneficial for individuals with depression and anxiety.

Dr. Magauran completed a Psychoanalytical Psychotherapy Fellowship at the Boston Psychoanalytic Society and Institute and had Psychiatry specialty training at the Boston University Medical Center. She received her MD from the Royal College of Surgeons in Ireland and her BA from Yale University. She looks forward to meeting you.
