Professional statement

Dr. Stafford is an ivy league-trained, double board certified child, adolescent and adult psychiatrist, which gives her the training and expertise to treat patients from early childhood through adulthood.

She received her MD at Michigan State University where she earned honors in Psychiatry, and gained additional clinical psychiatric experience at Bellevue Hospital in New York City. Her adult psychiatry training was completed at the University of Massachusetts where she served as the Chief Resident in Psychopharmacology as well as the Chief Resident for the Psychiatric Consultation-Liaison Service with a subspecialty interest in working with clients with treatment-resistant Depressive Disorders. Her child and adolescent psychiatry training was completed at Brown University with a subspecialty focus in treating children and adolescents with neurodevelopmental disorders such as Autism Spectrum Disorder and Intellectual Disabilities. Dr. Stafford also has considerable experience in treating children, adolescents and young adults with anxiety and mood disorders, and enjoys evaluating and treating patients from all backgrounds with a combination of medication management and psychotherapy targeting a wide variety of general psychiatric concerns. She sees clients in multiple states in New England and has consulted with international clients as well.

Message to clients

My practice is small and patient-focused with a tailored approach to meet every patient's unique needs. My approach to treatment is to provide a safe, comforting environment where patients feel able to express themselves emotionally without fear of judgment. I pride myself on being empathic, warm, and caring with an ability to personally connect with each of my patients and their families. I genuinely love what I do and I believe this reflects in the results I help my patients achieve. While my particular areas of clinical interest include treating anxiety, OCD, & depressive disorders in children, adolescents and young adults, I also enjoy women's mental health and treating a wide variety of general psychiatric issues.

I operate alone without an office staff, so my patients have full access to me at all times. I am often able to accommodate same day and weekend appointments, and make myself available on holidays as well when needed. Medication refills are almost always filled within the same 24 hour period, even on weekends and holidays. I believe treatment works best with a combination of medication & therapy, therefore I offer both services to all clients in my practice.

- Zencare client November 2021
"Misty is fantastic and I say that after only one session. She was quick to respond to my initial reach out request and her initial intake with me was great. Despite it being a remote call she made it a safe space and I felt comfortable with her quite quickly. Her insights were helpful and I felt like I was working with a doctor instead of just being another patient on her list. My only regret is that I didn’t find her sooner."
