Dr. Tavakkoli is a New York-based, board-certified psychiatrist with more than 20 years of clinical, public health, and leadership experience. He is currently an Assistant Clinical Professor of Psychiatry at Columbia University and is affiliated with Rockland Psychiatric Center. Dr. Tavakkoli has degrees in Medicine and Public Health from Tehran University of Medical Sciences and Global Health and Population from Harvard School of Public Health. He completed his psychiatry residency and chief residency at New York Medical College and has previously served as the Chief of Inpatient Psychiatry and Site Director for medical student education at Westchester Medical Center. Dr. Tavakkoli treats a variety of psychiatric conditions including mood disorders (depression and bipolar disorders); anxiety; personality disorders; attention-deficit, hyperactivity disorder (ADHD); obsessive-compulsive disorder (OCD); and psychotic disorders such as schizophrenia and schizoaffective disorder. Combining his medical and psychotherapeutic skills and employing years of experience and training in public health, Dr. Tavakkoli uses a holistic, biopsychosocial approach towards his patients and goes beyond merely prescribing medications for them. He is a patient-focused physician emphasizing on building relationships with his patients and working towards creating a personalized treatment plan for them.
