Professional statement

Dr. Patricia Pop is a Stanford-trained holistic integrative psychiatrist based in California who loves treating professional women with ADHD, anxiety, and pre-menstrual mood changes with a warm, thoughtful whole-person approach. Dr. Pop emphasizes, self-compassion, understanding, lifestyle changes (structure, routine, exercise, diet, sleep), and medications when helpful. She loves helping women with perfectionism, overwhelm, and stress.

Holistic care emphasizes getting to know you as a whole person, addressing more aspects of your life than just medication. Integrative care combines the best of modern psychiatry (medications, lab testing) plus more (supplements, exercise, nutrition, sleep, mind-body practices, and coaching).

She also has a passion for psychedelic medicine and welcomes those looking for a psychedelic-friendly psychiatrist to share their concerns in a judgement-free zone with someone well informed in both psychedelics and standard psychiatry. For example, she’s happy to provide guidance on preparation, risk reduction, medication interactions and tapering, and integration therapy.

Dr. Pop earned her MD from the Columbia, residency training at Stanford, completed a 1-year psychodynamic therapy fellowship, and CPTR (Certificate in Psychedelic Therapy and Research Studies) through CIIS and KAP through apprenticeship at The Clinic and Polaris Insight Center. In addition to her private practice, she works as a clinical trial therapist for psilocybin research studies at UCSD and other clinics.

Virtual visits are available for all residents of California! With occasional options for in-person visits in La Jolla, Palo Alto, and Burlingame.

Message to clients

Spinning your wheels but still somehow getting nowhere?! Despite still trying really hard! Maybe you’ve been called “quirky”, “weird”, “spacey”, “head in the clouds”, or “dreamy” and learned to embrace it (while still hitting a wall and watching friends pass you by) or tried really really hard to “get your shit together” (but driven by shame, and still hitting walls!). Maybe you’ve been asked “why can’t you just….”.

Life with ADHD can be overwhelming and demoralizing, especially as a woman. There are unique things to consider: like how it presents differently in women, how it gets overlooked, how our hormones influence symptoms, the increased likelihood you may have anxiety or more issue with your mood close to your period. That’s before we even get to the part about what society expects of women, and how those requirements bring extra shame (groceries, planning parties, managing households, etc).
