Professional statement

Abby Crews is a Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist in Montclair, New Jersey who works with couples, families, and individuals. She specializes in couples and family therapy, parenting and pre-parenting issues, and premarital counseling.

When working with Abby, you can expect a strengths-based approach. In the first session, she prioritizes getting to know you, making sure you feel comfortable, and understanding what prompted you to seek help. She then assists you in identifying your goals and expectations for treatment.  For couples, such goals could be to work on conflict resolution, trust issues, feelings of isolation within the relationship, ongoing arguments, and disagreements or anxiety over parenting styles. She helps partners identify their relational patterns, disarm reactive defenses, improve communication, and rekindle intimacy and trust.

Given her background in faith-based counseling, Abby also welcomes clients seeking to integrate their faith into the therapy process. She looks forward to meeting you.

Message to clients

Hi and welcome! Asking for help isn’t always comfortable, but I find the uncomfortable places are often the ones filled with the most purpose and possibilities. Congratulations on taking the first step! As a Marriage and Family Therapist, I approach therapy from a systems perspective. That means I view people and situations as interconnected and inter-influencing rather than in isolation. It also means I am passionate about helping people strengthen their relationships, whether that is with a spouse, friend, child, or with themselves. My approach is to listen and engage a client’s story in a way that instills hope, encourages curiosity and insight, and facilitates growth. My hope is to help my clients see the value of the process, cultivate their relationships with grace and vulnerability, and thrive in their purpose.
