Professional statement

Adam Prestegord is a Licensed Clinical Social Worker in Alexandria, VA who specializes in LGBTQIA+ concerns, gender and sexuality, and insight-building. His practice is open to clients ages 18+ and up, and he welcomes individuals and couples from the LGBTQIA+ community. He is licensed in VA, DC, and MD and is an AASECT-certified sex therapist.

Adam enjoys working with clients who express self-curiosity, and enjoys engaging with individuals who are interested in how their past relationships are impacting them now, how their past beliefs are influencing them now. He mixes this introspective approach with tangible skills from therapy types like Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT).

When working with clients from the LGBTQIA+ community, Adam uses a client-centered approach, to fully understand where his clients are at and what their concerns are. That might be coming out to family, accepting themselves, or navigating a gender transition. Adam enjoys working with these clients to help them achieve their goals and create lasting change in their lives.

Message to clients

Thanks for your interest. I hope to help you gain a better understanding of yourself and assist you towards your personal goals. I work as a psychodynamic therapist, meaning that together we can examine how unconscious beliefs, past relationships, and our interactions in the present moment affect you and your current concerns. Additionally, I use CBT and mindfulness strategies to help develop healthy coping skills. I specialize in the LGBTQ population, but welcome all who are seeking support and wanting to build personal insight.
