Professional statement

Adrienne Cress is a Licensed Clinical Mental Health Counselor and Registered Expressive Arts Therapist in Portsmouth, NH. She accompanies her clients in healing from childhood wounds, discovering personal strengths, and designing a fulfilling life. Adrienne puts special emphasis on discernment between the voices and choices of the distressed ego and the wisdom and guidance that comes naturally from the True Self. Adrienne facilitates this process of discovery through guided meditation, expressive arts, action methods and talking things through.

Adrienne holds a therapeutic space that balances safety and risk. She establishes safety with ongoing care and attention into any and all concerns that emerge in the therapeutic process as well as creative practices that help to ground and connect her clients. She also invites clients to step into their growing edges by offering options to explore further through the arts, meditation and action methods.

Adrienne delights in witnessing the spiritual awakening that can occur when a client is released from the burdens of their negative beliefs, returns to their authentic being and comes to trust and feel connected to others and the world again.

Since she began her private practice in 2013, Adrienne has been leading expressive arts workshops and classes for personal, spiritual and professional growth. She also co-leads a spiritually-minded online community called The Loveliness, offering online courses, blogs and other inspiring resources meant to facilitate connection with the True Self. Her role as a therapist is strengthened, also, by her roles as a mother, spouse and entrepreneur as well as by her creative practice as a dancer, musician and visual artist.

Message to clients

If you find there is a curiosity and openness within you to take a less traditional road to your personal healing and growth, then we might be a good fit for one another.

Whatever your intention for therapy, I will delight in meeting you there. I like to think of the therapeutic relationship as an improvised dance. In our collaborative partnership my training, skills and experience allow me to respond in-the-moment to your needs in ways that feel equally safe and transformative. In addition to the creative process and meditation practices, talk is also a valuable component in therapeutic change that can help to concretize the changes you are making in your life.

No experience in the arts or meditation is required; "beginner minds" are welcome! In fact, I welcome all, including BIPOC and LGBTQ-identified populations.

Next steps? Reach out to me with some times that might work for you for a free 15 minute phone consultation. Sometimes that's a great way to get a sense for our fit and decide how to proceed from there.
