Professional statement

Dr. Aimee Ruscio is a psychologist in northwest DC. They work with adult individuals. Many of Aimee’s clients come in to address trauma or navigating gender. Aimee has a deep dedication to serving the LGBTQ+ community, especially trans and non-binary clients. As an Army veteran, they have extensive experience working with Service members and veterans, including advanced training for Post Traumatic Stress Disorder.

Aimee uses Emotion-Focused Therapy, in which clients develop a greater capacity to understand and use emotions effectively. While Aimee coaches and facilitates clients in therapy, clients themselves do the work and therefore own the benefit of therapy. In session, clients learn to identify healthy emotions that point them in the direction they want to go. They also learn to identify painful emotions from past experiences that need attention and transformation. With EFT, clients learn to make sense of and use their emotions to move their life in the direction of their goals.

As a therapist, Aimee is grounded, warm, and deep. When clients first start therapy, they will listen intently to understand the client's experience. As therapy progresses, Aimee will facilitate experiential tasks aimed at understanding emotional processes and shifting them in beneficial directions.

Aimee received their PhD from the Uniformed Services University. Outside of private practice, they enjoy functional fitness training, navigating DC by bicycle, and long unstructured weekends. Aimee currently offers remote therapy sessions with plans for in person sessions when safe to do so.
