Professional statement

Akira Stuckey is a licensed mental health counselor. Akira specializes in complex/ relational trauma treatment. She is passionate about working with individuals who provide care for others in their personal and professional lives, such as healthcare providers, therapists, social workers, teachers, parents, daughters/sons, and etc. Most of her clients prioritize other people's needs before their own, and despite their passion for helping others, they often feel drained and overwhelmed, neglecting their own needs for self-care. For some, caring for others comes naturally, and it may seem unfamiliar to attend to their own needs. Some clients struggle to express their needs at the beginning of their journey. As familial and social expectations and demands increase, the sense of responsibility for caring for others grows even greater while their needs and wishes are left behind. However, it is essential to maintain a balance between caring for oneself and others to thrive in everyday life.

Akira believes in the power of inner wisdom. Both positive and negative habitual patterns are often directed and motivated by the unconscious mind. Our present-day behaviors and thought patterns are often the result of strategies we developed in childhood to cope with events. The key to changing these patterns is in the unconscious mind. By bringing unconscious patterns to consciousness and making choices that are appropriate in the present day, clients can create long-lasting changes in their lives. Akira's goal is to help her clients find balance in their lives and feel at peace, happy, and joyous while continuing to care for others.

Akira earned a Master’s degree from Antioch University, New England. She has the certification from the Sadhana Yoga School and the Institute for Interpersonal Hypnotherapy. She is a person-centered, strengths-based therapist who places great importance on creating safe, welcoming therapy spaces.

Message to clients

Our childhood relational patterns and how we navigate parent-child relationships are deeply engraved within us as conditioning. From the space of survival, we developed strategies to navigate life. This conditioning dictates how we navigate our present-day relationships and life. It’s normal; we all must be loved, accepted, and cared for as a child.

Those strategies work very well to keep us safe but can also create life challenges in later days. We want more than survival. We want peace, love, balance, and wholeness in our lives. We want to thrive! Though you might be experiencing some difficulties or feeling stuck, you already have all the knowledge and skills you need to navigate the current challenges, become the person you know you truly are, and live your life to its full potential.

My role is to help you find your way back to inner wisdom and reconnect with your true self. To do this work, I need your full commitment to looking at your life and creating and visualizing your goals. This work is for people who already have done some work through past therapy treatment or self-development and have a good understanding and handling of emotions/ symptoms.
