Dr. Alex Afram is a Clinical Psychologist in Downtown in Washington D.C. who specializes in anxiety (including social anxiety, generalized anxiety, work-related anxiety) and perfectionism, depression, relationships, trauma, self-esteem, and anger management and assertiveness. He works with adults across the lifespan, and offers individual, couples, and group therapy.

Dr. Afram is relational and focuses on building a trusting relationship where clients feel comfortable sharing their challenges. He draws on psychodynamic, cognitive behavioral, and acceptance therapies to create individualized treatment plans that best meet the needs of his client. He also frequently brings in mindfulness techniques and helps his clients label their feelings and challenge their negative thoughts.

Dr. Afram is passionate about helping people nurture their strengths and work through their challenges so that they can access the life they seek for themselves. He received his MA and PhD in Clinical Psychology from George Mason University. After receiving his doctorate, he completed a Postdoctoral Clinical Fellowship at The George Washington University Counseling Center.

Therapy can greatly improve the quality of a person's life. I believe anyone who has taken the step to reach out to me has already shown a great deal of courage to try and lead that life, and I seek to meet people's courage with warmth, curiosity, and compassion, so that they can feel supported and understood as they build a richer future for themselves.
