Mental Health Counselor - Limited Permit, MHC-LP Specialties • Insurance & Fees • LocationsAlex Mammadyarov, MHC-LP offers individual psychotherapy that emphasizes a collaborative and heart-centered experience in the room together. Alex works individually with adults and young adults who are processing all types of grief, including the loss of loved ones to both death and estrangement, as well as those going through transitions, encountering challenges in their interpersonal relationships, experiencing anxiety, working through trauma, codependency, or seeking to more deeply explore their self-concept. In addition to traditional talk therapy, Alex also offers sand tray therapy to more deeply explore and heal unconscious wounds. Weekly therapy sessions are available both remotely and in person at Alex's office in Midtown Manhattan.
Alex’s approach is warm and eclectic, drawing from psychodynamic therapy, CBT, and mindfulness. Alex brings her personhood, humor, and empathy to the work. Supported by a foundation of intersectional feminism and social justice, Alex also seeks to demystify the therapeutic process and empower you by helping you to help yourself. Alex believes that you hold more answers than you think you do. Together you can quiet the noise, go deep, and truly listen.
Alex graduated from New York University with a B.S. in Communicative Sciences & Disorders before working for two years in the community mental health setting as a field-based care coordinator, traveling throughout the boroughs to meet with clients in their homes. This robust on-the-ground training in social service provided the social-justice oriented foundation for her therapeutic work. Alex then graduated from Teachers College, Columbia University with an Ed.M. in Counseling Psychology and an M.A. in Mental Health Counseling. Before moving into private practice, Alex worked in the college counseling setting with a diverse, predominantly first-generation, population of undergraduate and graduate students.
