Professional statement

Alex Skye Trahnstrom is a Licensed Independent Clinical Social Worker providing therapy to individuals in Rhode Island and Massachusetts. Many of Alex's clients have an interest in spirituality or spiritual practices & they identify as deep thinkers and want to learn more about themselves. Alex’s clients often begin therapy because they are feeling a sense of 'stuckness' or that something is getting in their way of living an authentic life, feeling empowered, being happy, or having meaningful relationships and experiences.

Alex invites her clients to explore themselves within the framework of ‘multiplicity of mind’. Alex works with her clients to get to know both the parts of themselves that are pulling them toward healing as well as the parts of themselves that are resistant, scared, worried, or hurting. Alex supports her clients in building a relationship with these aspects of themselves in order to release burdens and unwanted narratives, to allow more room for play and creativity, and to ultimately live a more balanced and aligned life.

Alex’s approach to therapy is soul-led and insight-oriented and is influenced by depth-psychology, esoteric & archetypal psychology, and Internal Family Systems (IFS). She uses these approaches to support her clients in building a relationship with themselves, creating meaningful change, healing past wounds and traumas, and strengthening their connections with others.

Alex’s goal is to not only help deepen her client's understanding of themselves but to support them in creating meaningful and long lasting change. In order to support her clients on their journey and help them accomplish these goals, she uses a combination of talk therapy as well as integrating mindfulness and experiential practices (such as expressive arts, guided imagery, and somatic awareness). Alex also enjoys integrating archetypes and symbolism from nature, tarot, and astrology.

Message to clients

Hello! I'm a big metaphor person, so here is a metaphor to help you get more of a sense about how therapy can help support you.

The garden metaphor:

Our psyche is represented by a garden. Each thought, belief, narrative, pattern, emotion, and experience is represented by a plant, weed, or flower. Therapy can be a place where we learn about and explore this garden. We can understand the interconnectedness of the roots beneath the surface, we can begin to make sense of how the weather impacts our crops, we can dig up old and no longer wanted weeds, we can plant new seeds, and we can water the plants that you want to see grow.

*I know this process of beginning therapy (never mind finding a therapist) can feel daunting, scary, and overwhelming. Please do not hesitate to schedule a free phone consultation if you'd like to explore a little bit more about what working together may look like.

Regardless of if we connect or not - I hope your journey leads to healing and wellness.
