Alexandra Bennett is a licensed psychotherapist based in New York who works with children, adolescents and young adults. After graduating from New York University, she worked for three years at Woodhull Hospital in Brooklyn with children and adolescents with a variety of mental health diagnoses. Her area of expertise include anxiety, depression, trauma and eating disorders. She utilizes a cognitive behavioral approach to assist clients in recognizing and adapting thought patterns to facilitate change. Alexandra creates a warm, trusting environment for clients to feel both supported and challenged in sessions. Alexandra has received extensive training in modalities including DBT, CBT and play therapy.
For younger clients, Alexandra utilizes play-based approaches in addition to talk therapy. She collaborates closely with schools and other providers to ensure support for a child or adolescent across settings. Additionally, Alexandra work with families to assist in parent coaching and developing skills to support their children at home.
In addition to her work in private practice, she is the lower school counselor at the Windward School where she works with children with language-based learning disabilities. Currently, Alexandra is only offering virtual sessions but beginning in September, she will be offering in person appointments on the Upper East Side.
