Professional statement

Alexandra DeCosta is a Licensed Mental Health Counselor (LMHC) with ARISE Psychotherapy Services, Inc. Alexandra has worked in various ends of the counseling field and with many different populations. Among other areas, Alexandra has extensive experience working with individuals with anxiety disorders, depressive disorders, trauma related diagnoses, post-partum diagnoses, and multiple behavioral diagnoses. Outside of these diagnoses, Alexandra also focuses on finding a positive balance during life’s stressful seasons.

Counseling is a collaborative experience, in which Alexandra works with her clients to pinpoint areas of strength and areas where support is needed. You will work together with her to identify maladaptive behavioral and cognitive patterns, while exploring techniques to challenge these. Alexandra believes in utilizing a strengths-based approach, while applying techniques from varying modalities such as CBT, TF-CBT, DBT, narrative therapy, and motivational interviewing. During sessions, Alexandra encourages her clients to bring in topics they would like to address, while also working through goals from the developed treatment plan.

Counseling looks different for each client-Alexandra truly believes in the importance of working with her clients to develop a therapeutic relationship and system that works for you as an individual. You both will utilize techniques that will require practice outside of session, assessments to measure progress, and guided conversation within session. Alexandra’s clients describe her as compassionate, honest, relaxed, and flexible. She enjoys and values fostering a close and relaxing therapeutic environment.

Message to clients

Asking for help can be incredibly difficult. Furthermore, in our society, we tend to have overloaded and often unmanageable schedules. When this is the case, we have a tendency of placing ourselves and our own self-care on the back burner. However, this often leads to stress burnout, depression, anxiety, and just an overall feeling of being overwhelmed and exhausted. Counseling is a commitment, both physically and emotionally, but one that is well worth the investment of your time. Therefore, I truly commend the bravery of anyone who is seeking support, as the hardest part is taking this first step.

Counseling sessions with me will be a collaborative experience in which we will work together to identify maladaptive behavioral and cognitive patterns, and explore techniques to implement change in a manner that works for you and your life. I provide support through an encouraging, compassionate, and honest relationship/workspace. A nonjudgmental and safe therapeutic environment is of the utmost importance to me. I look forward to embarking on this journey with you!
