Professional statement

Amanda Vaughn is a Licensed Psychotherapist in Providence, Rhode Island. She has a special interest in helping individuals through life transitions and in helping people answer questions like, "Why am I the way I am?". Often life can look a bit different than we imagined; whether it's related to our relationships, career path, parenting challenges, or overall levels of happiness. Amanda also sees teenagers through adults for anxiety, depression, and life transitions. She is an interactive therapist who collaborates with clients and offers direct feedback when appropriate to help achieve their goals.

Amanda has expertise in working with individuals processing trauma and grief. Amanda believes we are the sum of our experiences. The work of therapy, at its core, is to make the subconscious conscious. This includes processing and healing from the life events which have shaped us. These experiences are carried in our minds and bodies. Healing will begin from the inside out.

Amanda has worked extensively with individuals and couples facing infertility, postpartum depression, and perinatal mental health. She is an adoption competent therapist, providing psychotherapy to adoptees.

Amanda received her Master of Science in Marriage and Family Therapy from The Family Institute at Northwestern University along with extensive clinical training at The Family Institute’s Bette D. Harris Family and Child Clinic. She is trained in individual, couples, and family therapy. Amanda has also received post-graduate training in Child Parent Psychotherapy, as well as in the assessment and treatment of perinatal mood disorders. She provides screenings for egg donors, surrogates, as well as egg and sperm donor recipients.

Message to clients

I believe therapy should be interactive, challenging, and encourage growth. In my practice, the foundation of our work is rooted in a honest and genuine relationship. The sessions which I find the most rewarding are those when the client has achieved a deepened sense of self-understanding, thus creating a path to personal growth.
