Licensed Professional Counselor, LPC Licensed Clinical Professional Counselor, LCPC Master of Science, MS Master of Arts, MAAmber Young is a Licensed Professional Counselor located in Danbury, CT. Amber specializes in helping young adults who struggle with perfectionism, anxiety, and chronic stress. Many of her clients hold themselves to impossibly high standards, which gives them an edge when it comes to their careers, but leaves them feeling emotionally exhausted, disconnected, and inauthentic. Sometimes, they suffer from low self-esteem and feel that they are not worthy of healthy, loving relationships. She also supports clients who have gone through traumatic events, including abusive or toxic relationships.
Amber is trained in Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) and Dialectical Behavioral Therapy (DBT). She teaches clients how to cope with distress through the exploration and practice of coping skills, which can include grounding exercises, visualizations, self-affirmations, and more. She also teaches clients how to become wary of untrue, warped thought patterns that leave them with negative self-talk. By providing a compassionate, down-to-earth space for clients to talk about what’s going on in their lives, Amber helps them set goals for their mental health and reach those goals.
Amber earned a Master’s degree from Johns Hopkins University. She is passionate about increasing accessibility of mental health services for people of color and the LGBTQ community. Her goal is to ensure that every client feels welcomed and respected as they take steps towards achieving their goals.
