Amy Bordwell (she/her/hers) is a licensed professional counselor based out of Chicago, IL who works with individuals and couples who want to create change within their lives. Amy’s individual clients examine each person’s uniqueness and unexplored strengths, while her couples put the goals of the relationship at the forefront of support and care. Her clients are often stuck but unable to identify the root cause. Amy carefully explores old wounds and new stressors with the compassion and understanding necessary to facilitate forward movement.
Whether it be issues with life transitions like moving, changing jobs, or ending a relationship; to more noticeable disturbances like experiencing symptoms of depression, anxiety, or dealing with grief and loss, Amy works with clients to explore the origin of their symptoms. Once identified, clients are able to gain new insight into their emotional and relational patterns. Amy works closely with individuals and couples to reframe specific events in their lives and create a new narrative with added hope, confidence, and momentum.
Amy’s approach to therapy is person-centered at its core. She is grounded in Narrative Therapy and Motivational Interviewing (MI). In addition, for a more trauma-based approach, Amy has experience and knowledge with Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT). Further, Amy is aware that adjustments to certain stressors require a change in thought patterns and will use Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) when appropriate.
Amy’s first priority is a feeling of safety for her clients. Beyond that, Amy wants clients to feel heard, appreciated, and supported while navigating life’s trials. Amy offers the flexibility of remote therapy sessions to accommodate the hectic lifestyle led by so many and is currently accepting new clients.
