Professional statement

Amy-Noelle is a Licensed Professional Counselor, Life Coach, Relationship Expert and Author. She specializes in relationship dynamics and personal development. She has almost 15 years of experience working with couples.

Amy-Noelle helps couples resolve the real issues and pain that drive a wedge in their relationship.

“Partners often move into reactive mode when they feel it’s the only way to be heard. It only takes a harsh tone – where a partner anticipates “what’s coming” – for communication to become a self-fulfilling prophecy and character assassination. When partners enter what I call “trigger climate,” they set themselves on a familiar trajectory of armoring up and self-protecting. In flooded states, partners release a surge of stress hormones in the body. This stymies empathy and navigating challenges – with heart. Consequently, partners assume a “you-don’t-get-to-hurt-me” position, inevitably accumulating a crust of resentment and more scar tissue. This perpetual dynamic starves relationship growth.”

Couples therapy can help if you would like to learn how to:

• Experience a deeper connection with your partner

• Engage in loving, respectful communication

• Heal past hurts

• Build trust

• Strengthen the vision for your relationship

• Attune to one another's deeper needs

• Regulate the cycle of conflict and disappointment

• Recover from infidelity

• Feel empowered and aligned with your values

• Work through major differences

• Move on if considering separation or divorce

Amy-Noelle uses the Gottman Method, Positive Psychology, and also draws from Ester Perel’s work, which integrates psychodynamic, attachment, and systemic theories, as well as body-oriented and mindful therapy approaches. She considers the whole person through a holistic lens.

Therapy is conducted in a highly collaborative manner with an empathic, heart-focused directness.

Message to clients

I usually can know the health of couples' relationships just by looking at whether and how often they get into what I call the “trap” cycle.

It looks like this:

You cause more hurt by how issues are brought up than the issue itself.

You never actually get to the real issue!

The character assassination and blame prevent you from gaining understanding.

Your relationship is rife with frustration and disappointment, so much so that you feel like you are walking on eggshells and always anticipate getting into a disagreement.

Now it takes even less for you to get triggered and upset because of past hurt and past conflicts.

Because of lingering hurt, you knee-jerk into reactive mode when your partner has a complaint.

The trap is set.

Reactivity begets more reactivity, and resolving issues in this unfriendly climate becomes nearly impossible.

The clients who come to me often feel desperate for change. They are seeking more direction and movement in the sessions.

I use a combination of therapy and coaching, allowing for quick positive change and real healing.

With coaching, I give you the tools to keep you from entering the trap cycle I talked about. This is important because just one blow-up can erase any meaningful progress, so you want to stop adding to the hurt as quickly as possible.

Therapy is about recognizing the real issue and healing past hurt that carries over to future arguments.
