Professional statement

I’m a clinical social worker with a doctorate in cultural anthropology, and I’ve had the privilege of supporting individuals through various life challenges. I began my career in community mental health and military settings, where I worked with people of all ages—ranging from childhood to young adulthood—helping them navigate strong emotions tied to trauma and life stressors such as military combat, immigration, frequent moves, new parenthood, and humanitarian crises.

I’ve also worked extensively with individuals facing bipolar disorder, anxiety, and depression, helping them uncover new strengths, relationships, academic paths, and career opportunities that they hadn’t previously imagined.

With my background in anthropology, I approach therapy with a deep respect for cultural context. I take time to understand what mental illness, healing, and resilience mean to you within your cultural and spiritual framework. Whether it’s through connecting to creative expression, animals and nature, faith, or community, I’m committed to helping you find and tap into the sources of strength that help you thrive.

I look forward to partnering with you on your journey toward healing and growth.

Message to clients

I have a lot of respect for people who come to therapy, even when they feel nervous about that first session. Talking to a stranger and being open to learning new ways to think and act can be hard, but it can be rewarding because of the sense of possibility you gain in the process.

As a cultural anthropologist who has lived in different places, I understand what it is like to be in vulnerable situations that demand an open mind and flexibility. I do my utmost to help you to relax so that our sessions feel like a safe place to learn. This sometimes means talking about topics unrelated to what brought you in to therapy such as a sport you play or your favorite TV show. My priority is helping you to become comfortable expressing yourself to me.

In turn, each person opens up a world of thoughts, habits, and values for me to get to know. That means that I see us on a journey together - You are free to tell me when I’ve asked the wrong question or the treatment approach doesn't seem quite right. I expect to make myself just as flexible as I ask you to become, in order to help you grow. Please do not hesitate to reach out to me with any questions about my approach. I look forward to hearing from you!
