Professional statement

Andy Weisskoff, LCSW has been a licensed mental health practitioner since 2000 and an Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR) specialist since 2006. He learned the practice of EMDR in California with the therapy's founders. After thirty years in California he moved to Maine in 2021, bringing with him expertise in the transformational therapy. He has helped hundreds of clients tap into their own resilience to integrate difficult life experiences.

Mr. Weisskoff received a Bachelor's of Arts in Psychology from Brown University in 1988 and a Master's of Social Welfare from University of California, Berkeley in 1997. He has worked in a variety of clinical settings including outpatient clinics, psychiatric hospitals and, since 2013, in private practice.

Message to clients

One out of five people who have had a life threatening experience go on to develop PTSD symptoms--nightmares, flashbacks, anxiety, and avoidance of triggers to the event. Over the fifteen years that I've been using EMDR Therapy, I've helped hundreds of clients recover from a wide variety of difficult experiences. Some needed to process a single event, like a car crash or an assault. Others wanted to resolve more complex trauma--like childhood abuse or a coercive relationship in adulthood. EMDR is equally effective for both kinds of trauma. It is also helpful for addressing any kind of phobia or panic experience.

Rapid eye movements, paired with therapeutic conversation between sets of eye movements, allow anxious memories and thoughts to become less vivid and less urgent. These changes stick, sometimes for a lifetime. And, unlike other therapies, we do not need to meet several times before we can start addressing, directly, the discomfort that brings you in.

My office at Pineland Farms, with miles of wooded paths, is an ideal setting for retreat and transformation. After sessions, and before returning home, you can take some time to yourself, letting what you've learned during the visit settle in. I'm just thirty minutes of country roads away from Portland.

If you wonder if EMDR is the right fit for you, please don't hesitate to reach out. You'll find me honest, encouraging, and easy to talk to. I look forward to hearing from you!
