Professional statement

Angela Stillwell is a Arkansas-based, Licensed Professional Counselor (LPC) with 20 years’ experience working with trauma, personality disorders, and stress management. Along with other co-occurring issues including: depression, anxiety, panic attacks, bi-polar disorder, post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD), obsessive compulsive behaviors, and, of course, relationship challenges.

Angela's experience includes individual and group therapy in residential and outpatient settings, working for the military as a Director of Mental Health for the Army National Guard for the state of Arkansas, Faculty and Primary Care Behavioral Health Specialist with the University of Arkansas and Medical Science as a clinician and educator of PCP’s of Behavioral Health and Psychology.

Angela's approach to therapy is eclectic, drawing on a variety of modalities to best serve a client’s needs and goals. Her modalities of choice are the ones that have proven most useful, such as Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), Motivational Interviewing, Psychoanalytical, Mindfulness based therapy, Sensorimotor Psychotherapy, Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR), and holistic and integrative mental health.

Finally, Angela believes that therapy offers a unique opportunity for intensive emotional and intellectual growth so that one can be better equipped to lead a more productive and fulfilling life. She states, " an individual can begin to consider one's life from a different point of view by attaching new meaning to his/her past, explore new avenues for reaching life goals, decrease painful feelings and increase their ability to cope with life's stressors. I believe in the value of the therapeutic relationship and its influence in creating positive change."

Message to clients

Hello I'm very happy to meet and work with you. There are a few preparations that I like to give to help you have a success in our work together.

1. Make sure you have a good internet connection. If you get disconnected, we will both try to get connected again but this will take time away from your session that you have scheduled. Therefore this is an important step to prevent this from happening.

2. Please be in a quiet and private setting. This is not only for your protection and privacy (I can't be responsible for what others around you may hear) but it is also beneficial in your success. You will need to be able to focus and not distracted by others around you (including children and pets). We don't want a lot of disruptions that will effect your session and healing.

3. Please be on time and ready. Each minute that passes by is another minute taken off your scheduled time.

4. If you have any questions or something you want to discuss, please have them wrote down so we can be sure to talk about them.

5. And last but not least, remember that you only get out of what you put into it. If you put a lot of hard work into your treatment, the more you will get out of it. This is something only you have control of. I can't lead you to the water, if your not willing or motivated enough to go.
