Professional statement

Angelyne Arellano is a Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist located in Oakland, CA. She is bilingual in Tagalog and English. Angelyne supports clients as they face anxiety, depression, loneliness, or heavy feelings of shame. Many of her clients have difficulty believing that they deserve to feel happy. This can often lead to isolation or distress when in social situations, which can then cause relationship conflicts with loved ones. Angelyne works with her clients to do away with their shame and feel engaged and excited about their lives.

Angelyne offers clients the opportunity to develop their coping skills while in session. She encourages clients to practice skills like deep breathing, distraction, or body scanning in moments of distress to help manage their emotional reactions. Clients learn techniques from Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) and Dialectical Behavioral Therapy (DBT), which emphasize the connection between thoughts, feelings, and actions. Angelyne also practices The Gottman Method with couples, helping them grow deeper bonds based on emotional understanding. Angelyne supports clients as they look back on their previous experiences and relationships, including the ones with their early caregivers, and make connections to how they impacted their adult lives.

Angelyne earned a Master’s degree in Counseling with a specialization in Marriage, Family, and Child Therapy and Rehabilitation Therapy. She is passionate about promoting mental health and therapy with diverse cultures, including the Filipino and Asian American culture. Her goal is to empower clients to let go of their shame and feel confident navigating their lives.

Message to clients

I believe every person has the capacity for change and grow at any time in their lives. Understanding the interdependence of your thoughts, feelings and behaviors will help you to pinpoint which beliefs and behaviors are no longer beneficial. If it turns out that you need to make big changes in your life, I can act as your reliable navigator who provides you with a safety net to explore your options and their possible consequences. If I need to challenge you, I’ll do it gently and only when it provides opportunity for growth and a healing experience.

I will help you develop at least five strategies so you will always have access to discreet exercises that can quickly create relief from negative thoughts, help you manage conflict in relationships, and make decisions that account for familial and cultural customs. These strategies are practiced during sessions, and in-between session activities are offered to enhance opportunities to apply techniques in real time and reduce your body's negative reactions to stress.

While I believe that anxiety, depression and loneliness are a natural part of life, they shouldn’t come burdened with shame and guilt. No matter your heritage, cultural background and life experience, I want you to be relieved of feeling bad and alone with pain. I'll never force you to talk about something that you don’t want to talk about, and I'll be compassionate of your cultural values and personal beliefs. Contact me so that, together, we create a more resilient you.
