Professional statement

April Rohr is a licensed psychotherapist based in New York City. She works with adults and young adults navigating dating, career, and identity concerns. In addition, April has experience working with altered states of body and mind, including substance use, self esteem, and other disturbances in self. She has postgraduate training in psychoanalytic therapy and has also worked as a therapeutic consultant for tv production and tech companies.

April’s approach is psychodynamic in nature- meaning that she helps her clients develop awareness of their emotional and behavioral patterns that may contribute to unnecessary suffering. She is particularly attuned to patterns of self-sabotage, unfulfilling repetitive dynamics in relationships, and negative beliefs about self. April helps her clients develop insight around these patterns, and works to co-create tailored strategies to help them show up differently in their work, family, and romantic lives. As a result, her clients come into contact with a more robust, alive, and confident version of themselves.

April’s clients say her practice style is curious, attentive and accepting. A seasoned telehealth provider, she offers remote sessions to a wide range of New York City professionals, executives, and creatives.

Message to clients

Whether you’ve done therapy for many years, or just starting therapy for the first time, working with someone new can be a daunting experience. This is why it matters to me to create a nonjudgmental and open space for you to explore whatever comes to mind. With curiosity, we can unpack whatever it is that you might be carrying around.

This might look like exploring unconscious patterns. Do you find yourself in states of avoidance? Have you ever suspected yourself of self-sabotaging your relationships or undermining your success? Do you find yourself repeating childhood patterns? My postgraduate training in psychoanalytic therapy lets me listen to music beneath the lyrics- the unconscious patterns of meaning behind your behaviors.

Many problems in life do also require a solutions-focus. My goal is to develop an honest, authentic and constructive relationship with you so that we can work together to face challenges and resolve difficult situations.
