Professional statement

Dr. Art Khachikyan is a Licensed Clinical Psychologist with a private practice in the Greater Los Angeles Area, and serves both individual adults and couples across California for virtual sessions. Clients come to Dr. Khachikyan when they are seeking to create change in their lives; through a process of identifying areas of strength and moments for growth, Dr. Khachikyan works with clients to develop and utilize more effective coping and communication skills.

Many of Dr. Khachikyan's clients come to therapy with emotional pain, adjustment and acculturation issues, anxiety, depression, intimate partner issues, career challenges, or a lack of joy in their lives. In session, Dr. Khachikyan uses a customized plan based on the treatment that will best suit each individual's needs and goals. Drawing from CBT, DBT, mindfulness practices, solution-focused therapy, humanistic, psychoanalytic/Jungian and other effective therapy techniques, Dr. Khachikyan approaches each client with a culturally sensitive lens, working to make them feel heard and understood.

In addition to his work with individuals, Dr. Khachikyan also welcomes couples to his practice. Moments of betrayal and barriers to trust can take a big toll on a relationship; in his work with couples, Dr. Khachikyan focuses on helping clients find a new sense of balance/connection.

Dr. Khachikyan started his private practice to serve his community by providing culturally sensitive/informed therapy. He speaks 3 languages and understands the barriers and the differences one can face by moving to another country or state. As your mental health advocate, Dr. Khachikyan recognizes that you are the expert of your life and is here to help you uncover the layers of present challenges in order to release the painful past. His hope is that each client leaves therapy with more effective coping mechanisms and meaningfully engaged with their loved ones, career and most importantly, with themselves.

Message to clients

At times we tend to care about everyone else around us but ourselves. I say that we have to be selfish to be able to be selfless. The most important person for yourself is you in this world. You need to give yourself the time, the love and the care to be able to care about others as well.

As an English, Armenian, and Russian-speaking clinical psychologist, I strive to provide culturally sensitive therapy for anyone in need. For many of my clients, that includes support integrating into society in the United States. Our work together will focus on implementing multicultural, multilingual aware/sensitive treatment plans that will increase your ability to build a strong support network, career, and community in your new life.
