Dr. Ashley J. Britton is a Licensed Clinical Psychologist serving North Carolina residents. She welcomes individuals (ages 18+) seeking to create change in their lives. She’s committed to maintaining a diverse, equitable, and inclusive practice that serves as a safe space for LGBTQ+ members. Dr. Britton is also uniquely skilled in working with those experiencing chronic pain or illness, and other serious medical conditions with a unique awareness to the healing power of the mind-body connection. Many clients struggle to navigate overwhelming feelings of stress, anxiety, and depression and impact how they function at work and in relationships. Clients will explore core beliefs about themselves, others, and their existing systems to co-create practical strategies for their personal circumstances.
Dr. Britton’s therapeutic approach is rooted in the Transtheoretical Model (TTM), an integrative model of intentional behavior change. The TTM integrates key components from other theories into a comprehensive change model that applies to various behaviors, populations, and settings. Therapy sessions with Dr. Britton integrate insight-oriented and skills-based approaches with an emphasis on practical strategies (e.g., relaxation and guided imagery) to help clients feel better in session. Sessions with Dr. Britton will gently challenge clients to explore the root cause of their symptoms while promoting new awareness of emotional and relationship patterns.
Dr. Britton’s priority with new clients is ensuring they feel safe, heard, and an equal partners in the therapeutic process. Her style is interactive and non-judgmental and positions clients as the experts of their lives and future. A trauma-informed therapist, Dr. Britton is sensitive to the impact past experiences have on present challenges; Together, Dr. Britton works with clients to reframe their life narrative to improve self-confidence and compassion.
