Professional statement

Ah Hyun “Ashley” Lee is a Licensed Clinical Social Worker located in San Mateo, CA. Ashley specializes in helping those with trauma backgrounds to overcome the lingering symptoms that hold them back from wellbeing. Many of Ashley’s clients have been in abusive or toxic relationships, including relationships from their childhood with caregivers, which have led to feelings of low self-esteem and self-worth. Others have experienced sexual assault, which results in PTSD. They feel frustrated, confused, and in pain.

Ashley is a relational therapist, which means that she emphasizes the relationship between the therapist and the client as well as uses self and the established relationship based on trust and safety to notice, bring insights, deepen the reflections. She encourages clients to reflect on the roles that relationships play in their lives, and how they impact their sense of self and happiness. She also provides Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR) therapy, an evidence-based therapy modality that targets trauma symptoms that won’t seem to subside, no matter how much talk therapy someone has done. Ashley provides clients with a space to talk openly and honestly about themselves and their experiences, and receive both empathy and the tools they need to move on from their trauma.

Ashley earned a Master’s degree in Social Work from the Crown School at the University of Chicago. She is trained in EMDR therapy and continuously seeks further skills and training to ensure that she’s growing as a therapist. She hopes to give her clients hope and peace as they work through what’s heavy on their minds.

Message to clients

I invite you to a warm, reflective space where we can dive into the complexity of your trauma when you are ready to address them. You will have fun, feel sad, cry, and feel safe when you are safe. We will build tools along the way so you can manage what you are going through. We will continue to process what happened and how it affects you now in order for you to come to peace with it and be able to live your life again.

Seeking help is the very first and the big step toward healing. Sometimes, it takes time to trust someone. I will work with your pace, allow you to feel welcomed with all emotions, and not be judged.

I look forward to working with you.
