Professional statement

Audrey Medrano is a Licensed Clinical Social Worker in Rio Rancho. She works with Individuals from middle school to adults of all ages. Many of Audrey’s clients come in to address trauma issues, such as: flashbacks, struggle to move forward from trauma, have a distrust of self; and trouble accepting positive events in their lives. Audrey is particularly passionate about serving Veterans, people in the LGBTQ+ community, childhood trauma survivors, violent relationship survivors, people who have experienced sexual harm and crime victims. She also has advanced training in the areas of PTSD, MDD, GAD, Dissociation, Self harm and Suicidal Ideation.

Audrey is trained in EMDR, Ego state interventions, CBT, Strengths Based methods, and Mindfulness. With these methods we explore how the body continues to react to the past, despite no longer being in the situation; and how to move forward from that reaction. We reflect on what was done to survive events without judgment of self for it. In the session, Audrey focuses on breathing exercises and grounding tools that can be practiced in stressful situations to recognize differences between flashback details and the current environment. This approach supports clients to take events from haunting to happened as well as to trust their instincts.

Audrey's style is challenging, supportive, and non-judgmental. When clients first start therapy, she helps them understand they are not 'crazy'; there is a reason for their actions and they can learn about them and intervene where they deem appropriate.

Audrey received her MSW from New Mexico Highlands University. She has worked with the Rape Crisis Center of Central New Mexico, Presbyterian Medical Services and has been working since 2017 as an adjunct professor teaching about domestic violence. Outside of private practice, she enjoys cooking and being outdoors. Audrey offers both in person and remote therapy sessions.

Message to clients

I will be here to help you realize that you are not crazy. I understand the need to feel comfortable in your own skin and take pride in being there to help you achieve this. Being able to listen without judgement, and provide support after you have been through various events is an honor to me. I understand your trust may have been violated and reaching out is difficult afterwards. I am here to focus on your needs and support you in achieving your goals for yourself. I enjoy helping come up with ways to unweave patterns of manipulation in my clients' lives and help you get to a point where you feel the past happened, but is not haunting you anymore.
