Professional statement

Ava Henderson is a licensed psychotherapist working in-person in San Francisco and virtually in all of California. Ava works with teens, adult and couples. In her work with individuals Ava has a great deal of experience working with anxiety, shame, childhood trauma, grief and relationship issues. In her couple work Ava helps couples identify and understand the negative cycles they get caught, how their attachment styles are effecting the relationship and how to communicate vulnerably and effectively with their partners.

Ava's work is grounded in psychodynamic theory with a strong holistic emphasis that is tailored fit the needs of my clients. Her approach is depth oriented which means that she will not only help you with alleviating painful symptoms and patterns--such as critical self-talk, over indulging in substances and relationship conflicts to name a few--but also get to the root of what is causing you suffering and distress so that lasting change is possible.

Ava believes that healing comes through relationship and that through her relational approach--meaning client and therapist examine what is happening in the room between us to better understand your relationships in the world--we can improve the quality of your relationship to yourself and others.

Ava's style is warm, collaborative, non-judgmental and tailored to meet the needs of each individual client.

Message to clients

If you are here you might be feeling lost in some way or have a sense that you are not living life to the fullest. It is vulnerable and brave to seek out help and it's big that you're here beginning your journey towards a more fulfilling life.

Our hope in working together is to give you a reparative experience around relationship where all the parts of you are welcome and make sense. As your therapist, I will hold both the light and the shadow sides of you—to honor the ways you’ve learned to cope with the inherent challenges of life, as well as to celebrate the innermost and hidden parts of your Self that may have gotten lost for lack of attention or for reasons of survival.

I look forward to being a non-judgmental and empathic companion on your journey towards living a more whole and authentic life in whatever way feels good for you. I trust that each of us has deep inner wisdom and an innate vocation towards self-healing. I feel honored to be your partner and witness in uncovering what that looks like for you.
