Master of Science, MS - Mental Health Counseling Board Certified TeleMental Health Provider, BC-TMH Licensed Professional Counselor, LPC National Certified Counselor, NCCBa Bunansa is a Licensed Professional Counselor located in Plano, TX. Ba is passionate about working with the Asian Pacific Islander community and the LGBTQIA community. He generally works with teens and young adults who would like to stop second-guessing every decision that they make and feel more comfortable with who they are. He specializes in helping clients grow their self-esteem and self-worth so they can feel confident, especially when interacting with other people. His clients sometimes struggle with anxiety or depression, which might stem from difficulty adjusting to a new stage in life or going through a period of major change. Ba provides kind, collaborative therapy services for clients to talk through what’s on their mind and what’s bothering them.
Ba’s approach to working with clients begins by building a strong trust in their relationship. He learns about clients and their backgrounds through asking open-ended questions, validating challenging feelings reflecting on moments of resilience. Clients learn how to listen to their bodies and how to pay attention to the thoughts that occur, especially the thoughts that lead to negative moods. Through Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), clients learn how to avoid cognitive distortions like assumptions or black-and-white thinking. Ba also practices Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT), helping clients recognize and align their lives to what’s important to them. Therapy with Ba looks like discovering different aspects of the self - and learning to love and accept those aspects, no matter what they are.
Ba earned a Master’s degree in Counseling from Southern Methodist University. He is also a National Certified Counselor and a Board Certified Telemental Health Provider. His expertise lies in working with the LGBTQIA community, as he has participated in additional training in this area. His educational background is in Liberal Studies and Literary Studies, which he enjoys incorporating into his conversations with clients when relevant.
