Professional statement

Ms. Betsy Tismeer is a bilingual (Spanish/English) nurse/psychotherapist with over 45 years professional experience working with families, adults and children. As a therapist Ms. Tismeer feels she is prepared to be your emotional advocate, and to assist you with the challenges you are facing. Building trust in the therapeutic relationship in a respectful, non-judgmental environment is essential. She believes that every client situation is unique, and she combines an eclectic theoretical approach with professional experience in order to assess, set goals and implement a treatment plan that is specific to your needs.

Having worked as a nurse in obstetrics, labor and delivery, and being a certified specialist in postpartum depression and anxiety, Ms. Tismeer is uniquely equipped to work with mothers experiencing these problems. With her many years of experience and subsequent wisdom she strives to come from a place of understanding and empathy when working with clients.

Working with adolescents and young adults who are struggling with identity formation and the challenges of becoming independent is an area of specialization. This work often involves parents and other family members as part of the therapy. Women's mental health and couples counseling are also areas that are an important part of Ms. Tismeer's practice.

Message to clients

As you're scrolling through all these pages, looking at therapists, you are probably considering the therapist's specialties, experience and even gender. Then you might look at the pictures: would you lean towards someone who is younger, or maybe someone who has been around the block once or twice. Almost seems like a dating site, doesn't it?

By this time you've looked at the professional statement and you know a few things about the therapist and their background. The thing is, until you take that first step and call the person who you think may be most helpful to you, you really can't know whether you and the therapist are a going to be a good fit.

I tend to think outside the box, try different approaches, and don't give up easily. I can usually connect with teens who won't open up to adults, and get to the root of problems. If I encounter an issue that I'm not familiar with I will research that issue until I know the ins and outs. In other words, I will do my very best for you! Give me a call and see if I can be of help to you! I provide teletherary to clients in California and Arizona. Office visits are offered to clients in the Phoenix area of Arizona.
