Blaine Atkisson is a Licensed Professional Counselor located in the Willow Lawn area of Richmond, VA. Blaine is passionate about supporting clients as they grow their emotional health and wellbeing. This includes learning how to connect with others in meaningful ways, how to effectively manage those difficult emotions, and how to advocate for the self. Many of Blaine’s clients feel anxiety in everyday life that distracts them from what’s important to them. Their insecurities and worries show up in relationships, especially in times of major change. Blaine helps these clients develop the skills they need to reflect on emotional situations and move forward with confidence.
Blaine’s approach to therapy draws from Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) and Dialectical Behavioral Therapy (DBT). Clients learn how to recognize negative thought patterns that are harmful to their emotional state. They also learn how to set boundaries with themselves and others. Blaine teaches clients about attachment theory and encourages them to grow their secure attachment style. Blaine does this in a nonjudgmental, compassionate way.
Blaine earned his Master’s degree in Clinical Mental Health Counseling from Marymount University. He completed post-graduate work in the areas of addiction and DBT. He is passionate about supporting clients as they grow their emotional health to show up in their own lives confidently, comfortably, and meaningfully.
