Professional statement

Blanca is a therapist with 30+ years of experience and enjoys working with adults who are ready to take on the task of creating the life they want. She believes in the human capacity to grow at any point in life, if one is willing to do the work. Blanca recognizes the daunting nature of counseling and while she challenges clients, she also works to help them identify and use their strengths as part of their evolution. She holds that there is no room for judgment in sessions, only understanding and cooperatively working toward desired outcomes. Blanca is honored and excited to be a part of the change for better in people's lives.

Blanca is a native Texan who also spent many years in New Orleans where, after high school, she attended Loyola University. Upon graduation with a Bachelor of Science in Psychology, she returned to Texas to attend St. Mary’s University in San Antonio, completing a Master’s in Clinical Psychology in 1989. Blanca also earned a commission in the Army and served in the Army National Guard. She began working as a therapist at Texas State University Counseling Center in 1989. She has a passion for and carries a specialization in the field of substance use disorders and recovery. Her work has enhanced her knowledge and interest in the impact of addiction in communities, addressing social justice and equality issues for all underserved communities and serving veterans.

Message to clients

Now is the right time.

Making the decision to address personal problems is meaningful, and I recognize how difficult it can be to find the right therapist to help. It's important to know that therapy takes hard work and dedication to face realities of the past, present and future and sometimes even more difficult to address the role we play in our own struggles. I work to provide a balance of compassion, support and accountability, so that sorting through the web of issues becomes less like a trap and more like a chance for freedom of choice and a happy life.
