Brennan Pedersen is a Licensed Psychoanalyst based in Manhattan, NY, seeing individuals and couples. Brennan's style begins with the reason one is looking for treatment. The goals and needs of the patient are at the center of each therapeutic relationship. Many of his patients come to treatment seeking relief from anxiety and depression. Many are frustrated with a lack of progress or the sense that they aren't where they should be in their lives, or where they had imagined and wanted to be.
As a psychoanalyst Brennan specializes in working with both the conscious and unconscious. This means that he cultivates a safe, exploratory, and sometimes playful environment where patients can put anything and everything into words. Brennan believes that saying to another person what we may have never said out loud can have surprising and powerful results. There is something different about saying to another what circles in our mind, or that we only say to ourselves. The purpose of the therapist is to be a companion and guide in this process.
Brennan sees patients from diverse backgrounds with various struggles. He has experience with LGBTQ+, artists, students, and individuals from many different professions and walks of life. In addition to depression and anxiety, Brennan has worked with psychotic/borderline experiences, eating disorders, stress, identity issues, and body dysmorphia, in addition to other issues.
Brennan studied psychoanalyst at The New York Graduate School of Psychoanalysis and received his certification from the Center for Modern Psychoanalytic Studies. He is located between the village near both Washington Square Park and Union Square. Brennan sees patients Monday trhough Friday. He finds that working in person can be more effective and is open to remote work as necessary.
