Professional statement

Dr. Brian L. Imber is a licensed Psychologist in California with an office located in Encinitas, CA., and a licensed Mental Health Counselor in Washington State with an office located in Bellevue, WA. Dr. Imber offers clients who suffer the impacts of stress, anxiety, depression, and trauma the opportunity to find comfort in their daily lives. He works with clients whose mental health gets in the way of healthy living, relationships, careers, and fulfilling hobbies. Many of Dr. Imber’s clients face major stress, which negatively influences their physical health. Dr. Imber’s goal is to help clients pay attention to their minds and their bodies as a way to find synchronicity.

Dr. Imber ’s approach to therapy blends the practices of many evidence-based therapy modalities. He is a person-centered, strengths-based, humanist therapist, which means that he meets with clients without judgment and with unconditional positive regard and respect for their experience. He practices biofeedback therapy to help clients self-regulate their physical sensations, thoughts, and their emotions. This is especially helpful for individuals who previously experienced trauma. He also draws from Psychodynamic therapy, Interpersonal Therapy, Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), Emotionally Focused Therapy for couples and individuals, Neurofeedback/Neurotherapies and Biofeedback therapy, Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR) therapy, and Virtual Reality Therapy

Dr. Imber has a PhD in Clinical Psychology with a focus on Applied Psychophysiology. He holds an MBA and board (BCIA) certifications in neurofeedback and biofeedback therapies. When appropriate, he includes virtual reality in treatment with clients. He has extensive experience working with clients on issues relating to relationships, business, education, arts, sports, and more.

Message to clients

The typical process to be treated at MindShift Psychotherapy is to schedule an initial consultation. The purpose of this meeting is to answer all your questions and learn more about you. Once you decide to proceed, we’ll schedule a day for assessments. The next two appointments will be to conduct the intake interview and then review your results and proposed treatment plan. Finally, we’ll schedule your treatment sessions and begin working together.

All sessions are confidential and privileged. Clients determine whether information may be released to anyone else, and give permission by signing a time-limited release. There are legally mandated exceptions when child abuse or abuse of a developmentally disabled adult has occurred within the last 7 years, or in life-threatening situations where the client poses a clear and present danger to self or others, or is unable to provide minimum life-sustaining self-care. I am mandated to take steps necessary to secure the safety of the client or others. Sometimes I may consult with another therapist at times to discuss de-identified patient information.
